August Events in Bend Oregon



As the summer is wrapping up, events are only heating up! There is plenty to do this month from movies in the park, free concerts, the Deschutes County Fair and much more!

Bend Elks Baseball :Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks, while enjoying one of America’s favorite past times.  Numerous games are going on this month.  These games also many times feature special events put on by numerous local sponsors.

Deschutes County Fair:  Kick off the month with high flying fun, funnel cakes, a rodeo and great free concerts to boot!  The fair runs from 7/30-8/3 and should be a great time for all who stop by.

Eli Young Band:  This popular country band is playing the Deschutes county fair on 8/1/14.  Grab free tickets at any participating McDonalds while supplies last.

Theory of a Dead Man:  This rock band is playing the Deschutes county fair on 8/2/14.  Grab free tickets at any participating McDonalds while supplies last.

Sun River Quilt ShowEnjoy the craftsmanship and art of quilt making that this quilt show taking palce on 8/2/14.  This event will feature over 100 quilts!

Queen – It’s a Kinda Magic:  “We will, we will rock you!” on 8/2/14 stop by the tower theater to enjoy the greatest Queen hits by this Queen cover band.

Turf & TunesPull up a chair on the Sharc lawn for these upcoming free Sunday events featuring music by artists from 5 pm – 7 pm :

  • 8/3/14: Broken Down Guitars:  This local band features blue grass, folk and classic rock music.  2012 they were the champions of Bend’s Last Band Standing
  • 8/10/14: Tony Smily: Get ready to dance to these electric beats mixing sounds from the 80s, hip hop, fusion, reggae and much more
  • 8/17/14: Brick Fields: These Arkansas natives music feature Ozarks Bluegrass Gospel sounds

Shawn Colvin with Special Guests: This talented and award winning singer/song writer will be playing on  8/5/14 at the Tower Theater

Alive After 5Stop by the Old Mill District after work on Wednesday 8/6/14 for some music and a good time! This week’s performer is LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends.

Munch & Music Series: Enjoy more post work concerts at Drake park on Thursdays throughout the majority of the summer.  Grab a lawn chair and something to eat while enjoying free music and a beautiful setting:

Feast from the Fire BBQ & Live Music: Who doesn’t love bbq and music in the summer time.  Be sure to catch one of Barsada Ranch’s events featuring delicious bbq by their chef and music to accompany those gourmet delights:

  • 8/7/14: Jason Chinchen – Modern folk rock musician
  • 8/14/14: Greg Botsford – Soulful Singer/Songwriter featuring guitar and percussion accompanist
  • 8/28/14: Kim Kelley – Country folk singer from the Texas area

John Hiatt & Combo and Taj Mahal Trio: Enjoy another musical event at Sharc.  Featuring jazz music by John Hiatt & Taj Mahal on 8/7/14

Twilight Cinema: Pack some blankets and the kids up to enjoy free family friendly movies in Sunriver during the end of the summer ranging from classics to newer movies! Fun events start at 6:30 pm and movies start at dusk!

Flash Back Cruz:Have a lover for classic cars?  Then you will love this event featuring classic cars on display at Drake Park from 8/8 – 8/10.

Sun River Art Fair:  Enjoy this event in Sunriver featuring art, music and fun for a whole weekend.  Stop by to look at amazing art and a little dancing in the streets at the Village at Sunriver from 8/8-8/10.

Peak Summer Nights Concerts:  Spend some time at the Athletic Club of Bend enjoying delicious food and music during the month of August:

  • 8/8/14: John Butler Trio: This Australian artist is well known with in Europe and Australia and is an Australian roots band. This award winning band has a number of albums.
  • 8/28/14: The Both (Aimee Mann & Ted Leo): This duet started collaborating in a joint tour in 2011 and recently had an album come out in 2013.

Bat Walk At High Desert:  Grab a flash light, bug spray and be ready for a tour in the dark on 8/8/14.  This exhibit features information about bats and their habitat.

2014 Brewfest: Bend Oregon is known for its breweries!  Enjoy food, beer and entertainment and this year’s Brewfest in the Old Mill District from 8/14-8/16

Pacwest Ghost Tree Invitational:  Love golf, good food and helping charity!? Then you will enjoy this year’s Ghost Tree Invitational, where proceeds are going to the Assistance League of Bend and Bend Ronald McDonald House.  This even takes place 8/15-8/16 at Pronghorn Golf Course

Northwest Crossing Munch & Movies:  Stop by Compass Park with a lawn chair and enjoy some movies free movies in the park this month.  Enjoy music, food vendors and relax as you enjoy some great movies!

Sunriver Music Festival Classic Concert II: Enjoy Classical music performed by the Sunriver Music Festival Orchestra and Central Oregon Master Singers.  Featuring Shakespear inspired pieces on 8/15/14 at the Tower Theater.

Mt Bachelor Quilts Guild 36th Annual Quilt Show:  Enjoy the artistry of quilt making at the Mt. Bachelor Quilts Guild show  on 8/16/14

Shakespear in the Park:  Enjoy a little culture in the park! This year Portland’s Northwest Classic Theater Company will be putting on the Twelfth Night.  Three nights of Shakespearian fun, 8/22-8/23 at Drake Park and 8/24 at SHARC in Sunriver.

Jack Johnson: Help wrap up the summer at this concert featuring Jack Johnson at the Les Schwab Amphitheater on 8/24.

Dave Matthews Band: As the summer draws to a close come and check out the Dave Matthew’s Band on 8/26 at the Les Schwab Amphitheater.
