10 Things We Love About Bend

OPEN (1)

I recently spent the Labor Day weekend enjoying some of my favorite parts of Bend. From running around Drake Park, pushing my Bob stroller around the Deschutes River Trail and simply enjoying a lot of the amazing place and things that Bend has to offer. Here are the 10 things that we love about Bend.

Deschutes River Trail – The river trail is such an easy way to hike and enjoy the beauty of Bend, Oregon. Right off of the Old Mill District, there is a perfect trail for walkers, bikers and parents with jogging strollers. On my jaunts this weekend I saw parents with young kids, elderly couple and plenty of dogs enjoying the scenic views as the trail weaves through trees and rocks all coming to a head at the beautiful bridge at the end of the trail.

Old Mill District – From movies to entertainment there is a little something for everyone at the Old Mill District. Walk the paths following the river, go shopping, enjoy movies or concerts (in the summer) and dine on some awesome food. Be sure to stop by Red Robin (Rob’s favorite) and Greg’s Grill (Michelle’s favorite).

Floating the River – A summer time tradition for Bendites.   Nothing is quite as fun as floating the Deschutes River when the hot summer sun is beating down. The cool water is refreshing and invigorating. It is a great time for people of all ages whether you only float for a short time through the Old Mill, or decide to float on to Downtown Bend.

Downtown Bend – The historic and booming area of Bend is great for locals and tourist alike. Enjoy lots of delicious food and shopping. Downtown is also known for hosting numerous events including Bite of Bend, Fall Festival, Spring Festival and Oktoberfest just to name a few.  Be sure to catch 1st Friday Art Walk in Downtown, where you can partake of free wine, look at beautiful art and immerse yourself in the ambiance of Bend.

Drake Park – This park is a beautiful part of Bend, Oregon. Only steps away from Downtown Bend, stone path leads along the parks overlooking the Deschutes River; with rolling knolls and deciduous trees throughout the park.  Cross over the bridge to Harmon Park where children can enjoy a play structure or watch kids play baseball at the neighboring field. This is a beautiful place to enjoy, especially in the fall when foliage begins.  It is also known to host a variety of events in the past from proms, OSU Cascades graduations and Shakespeare in the Park.

Unique Restaurants – Bend has been known for embracing unique restaurants, especially those that are locally owned.  This is why few chain restaurants stay in existence in Bend.  With so many delicious options throughout Bend in Chinese, burgers, steaks, seafood, Mediterranean and much more. We thoroughly enjoy the restaurants in Bend. Shout out to some of our personal favorites
Michelle’s: Ida’s Cup Cakes, Greg’s Grill, Kebaba and Chi Chinese & Sushi Bar
Rob’s: Bend Burger Company and Pilot Butte Burger

EVENTS! EVENTS! EVENTS! – Every weekend, especially in the summer there seems to be an amazing a fun event to enjoy from Brewfest to Bite of Bend to Winterfest. There is always plenty to do in Bend Oregon. We have amazing concerts at the Les Schwab Amphitheater, festivals at least once a month it seems, and other events.  Some of our favorite Events

Pilot Butte – Nothing like hiking up an active volcano that overlooks the entire city of Bend! Enjoy an uphill jaunt and catch your breath with amazing views. A hike that I actually plan on taking later this week.

Mount Bachelor  – Summer is unofficially over as kids return to school and Labor Day is behind us. Meaning snowfall will soon be on its way and skiers, snowboarders and snow enthusiasts will flock to Mount Bachelor. To enjoy ski/snowboarding runs, go cross country skiing or sled on huge tubes down the slopes. Family fun for everyone.

Supportive Community – Bend has so many community resources that are meant to help community members in a variety of ways. From non-profit organizations to government provided support, Bend has an amazing community that thrives on helping one another. Here some of our favorite non-profits or organizations that provide services to the Bend community.
